Program to cover elder abuse
The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary will present “What You Don’t Know About Elder Abuse,” a community awareness and information program at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kona Community Hospital.
Lexi McKay, legal assistant with the Hawaii County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, will be the featured guest speaker. She will discuss the forms and varied aspects of elder abuse, how someone can recognize problems for an older friend, family member or neighbor, and simple ways to refer someone for immediate help or advice from the county.
She will also be available for a question and answer session following the program, which will include a short discussion about KCH Auxiliary membership, volunteer opportunities, and the auxiliary’s nursing scholarship program.
Light refreshments will be served and a silent auction will be offered with proceeds going to the auxiliary’s nursing scholarship program. The presentation will take place in the hospital’s Conference Center located on the lower level of the administration building.

Tour offers Christian perspective of college
Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, in partnership with Grace Community Church, will lead a tour a college environment from a Christian perspective.
High school and college students, their family and friends are invited to meet at University of Hawaii at Hilo Campus Center for the 10 a.m. to noon Saturday tour.

Free seminar on Social Security planned
Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union offers a free educational seminar on Social Security maximization from 9 – 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the John Y. Iwane Credit Union Center Training Room at its Kaloko Facility.
The seminar will feature a presentation by Shan Nakamoto, Nakamoto Financial Services LLC and John Cornillez, Cornillez Group LLC. Key topics include when to take Social Security income, how taxes affect your Social Security income and how to maximize your lifetime benefit.

Hui Laulima Changes Meeting Place
West Hawaii Hui Laulima will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday at The Salvation Army, 75-223 Kalani St., Kailua-Kona. This is a change in the meeting venue.

The Hui Laulima, which translates to groups working together, is a consortium of West Hawaii’s major health and human service providers, faith-based groups, community associations, businesses, government and concerned individuals.
